The Kogs are John „O“ and Andy Baustein. Both have been involved in and have had a passion for music all their lives. here are our own versions of events as to how The Kogs were formed.

John’s version:

I had wanted to do a „back to the roots“ project for a very long time. The pure sound of a guitar and a singer; as we know it from buskers and camp fires, and yet a little different. I wanted to move it in a different direction. And to do that Andy was a key addition. I knew his style of singing from our time together in a previous band and was convinced he would be perfect. The recent pandemic and restrictions helped me take the final step and set all the „cogs“ in motion. It’s naturally about wanting to be creative, but it’s more too! It’s about friendship, life, our concerns for our planet and what is yet to come…..

Andy’s Version:

Musik! Für mich die wunderbarste Art seinen Emotionen ungezügelt Raum zu geben. Es gibt wohl keinen Moment in dem ich mich freier fühle als beim Singen. Es ist wie in einem Traum in dem man fliegen, über Häuser springen und um den Erdball rennen kann. Die Augen geschlossen, den Ton gefühlt, die Stimme losgelassen… alles ist möglich in diesem einen Augenblick!

John und ich haben mal ein paar Jahre zusammen gerockt und als sich 2020 das große Schweigen über Kunst und Kultur legte klopfte er wieder bei mir an…. er klopfte nochmal und nochmal. Er hat sich wirklich Mühe gegeben und um ehrlich zu sein hat es mich am Ende so genervt, dass ich einem Treffen zugestimmt habe 🙂

Naja, was soll ich sagen….. John präsentierte mir seine wunderbaren Ideen und ein paar Flaschen Wein später, es könnte so drei Uhr morgens gewesen sein, waren die ersten Roughtracks im Kasten. „A perfect match of cogs!“ Danke John, dass Du nicht locker gelassen hast!

Eine Gitarre und eine Stimme…. wie könnte man das ehrlicher und direkter performen?
